Instructions for use
Place the Sensenet on the ground. It will then begin to rez itself
into view. Sensenet is not designed to be attached to your avatar.
The Sensenet device will rez a number of component pieces, all of which
may be controlled and customized.
Scaling the cube
The Sensenet cube itself can be scaled to any size up to 10m x 10m x 10m.
/scale 5
will cause the cube to scale to 5m x 5m x 5m
/scale <10,8,2>
will cause the cube to scale to 10m wide x 8m deep x 2m tall. Note that
the area represented by the cube is always 256m x 256m x 256m, regardless of
the cube's scale setting.
Controlling the frame
The cube is surrounded by a frame consisting of 12 edges and 8 corners,
which will dynamically resize whenever the cube is scaled.
/frame purple
will cause the frame to turn purple. The following color names are
recognized: red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, black, white, gray,
orange, and purple. You may also specify a color as an RGB vector:
/frame <0,0,0>
will cause the frame to turn black. White is <1,1,1>, and gray
is <.5,.5,.5>
Controlling the floor
The bottom side of the cube is called the floor, and may be controlled
in a number of ways.
/floor off
will hide the floor.
/floor black
will turn the floor black. The same color names and RGB vectors used
for the frame will also work for the floor.
/floor b1ffae15-e347-999e-7097-9070288e7a39
will place the texture with that UUID on the floor. The example here
is a snapshot of "Sandbox Goguen" from the world map. For other sims
you will need to upload your own texture (it would
be cost prohibitive for me to continuously update textures for all 6,000+
sims). If you previously set a floor color, it may be necessary to set
the color back to white to make the texture look right.
/floor blank
will clear the texture out and replace it with a blank one.
Controlling the walls
The vertical sides of the cube are called the walls. The walls are visible
on the sides of the cube furthest away from your camera, and can be used
to provide background contrast, making items displayed inside the cube
easier to see. They may be controlled in a number of ways.
/wall alpha=1.0
will set the wall alpha to 1.0, making the walls visible. Setting to 0.0
will make them completely transparent.
/wall color=black
will color the walls black. The same color names and vectors used for the
frame and floor can also be used here.
Our beta testers found a color of black and alpha of 0.5 to be most pleasing.
Controlling pings
Within the cube there will appear a number of "pings". Each ping
represents one avatar, and that avatar's name will appear above the ping.
The ping will position itself at its correct location within the cube.
The cube represents 256m x 256m x 256m regardless of its /scale
setting.
/color Doran Zemlja=red
will cause the ping for "Doran Zemlja" to appear red. The same color
names and RGB vectors used for the frame and floor can be used here.
Avatar names are matched with a case insensitive substring match, so
the following commands would have had the same effect:
/color DoRaN ZeMlJa=red
/color Doran=<1,0,0>
In addition, the wildcard character "*" can be used to match all pings:
/color *=white
will color all pings white.

in a crowded display, ping names will attempt to stack above each other
for readability. Pings of different colors will not stack together.
The color name "random" will cause a ping to assume a
different random color.
/color *=random
will cause all pings to assume a different random color and prevent
stacking.
Users may right click the pings and select "info". This will
give the avatar's name and position.
Users may right click the pings and select "teleport". This will
"sit-teleport" you to that avatar. Sit teleport will not always function
currectly if the target avatar is more than 300m away.
Occasionally pings will appear outside the cube. This is not a bug.
Pings above the cube are real avatars above 256m. Pings adjacent to
the cube are real avatars in adjacent sims. While these pings represent
real avatars, not all avatars above 256m or in adjacent sims will always
be detected.
Monitoring remote sensors
Sensenet works be erecting and maintaining an array of remote sensors
across the sim. Sensenet works best in "open" sims which have not
been divided into a large number of small parcels. In less open sims,
land banning and scripting rules may prevent the remote sensors from
reaching their desired position in the array. The following commands
are meant for debugging sensor arrays only, and not for regular use.
Some of these commands may disable normal Sensenet functions.
/sensor blue
will cause the sensors to appear as blue pings. Color names and RGB
vectors may be used here.
/sensor big
will cause the sensors to appear as large (96m radius) translucent balls.
this may be useful for determining if there are gaps in the sensor
network where avatars may be hiding undetected. Note that big sensors
will disable the sit-teleport feature of normal avatar pings.
/sensor small
will return the sensors to their normal small ping size.
/sensor off
will turn the display of sensors off.
Shutting it down
/sensenet shutdown
will shut the cube down and delete it. Note that only the owner can do this.
Since Sensenet comes with copy privs, there should still be a copy in your
inventory. It may take up to 1 minute for the cube to shut down completely.
Do not try to "take" or "delete" your Sensenet cube. Use the shutdown command.
Auto-return, Full parcels, and other annoyances
If you leave your Sensenet cube on a parcel you do not own, and that parcel
has an auto-return timeout set, your Sensenet cube will be returned to you,
along with all the other component pieces (corners, edges, floor, pings,
wall, and relays). You may safely delete anything in your "Lost and Found"
folder; sensenet will rerez any components it needs as it needs them.
While the Sensenet cube itself is only one prim, it rezzes a large number
of other prims; 21 for the frame and floor, 14 for the sensors, 1 for the
walls, 1 for the ping manager, and one for each ping. Expect to run in to
problems if you rez Sensenet in a parcel which is nearly full.
